Most computers store time as the number of seconds since January 1st, 1970. Since that is a placeholder, the time is 0, it gets moved into 1969 because of time zone adjustment.

On January 19, 2038, the UNIX time will stop working, as it is stored in 32-bit signed integer format. All apps will have to upgrade to 64-bit integers or unsigned 32-bit integers.
