That sometimes works fine, but there are times it doesn't, even at Daytona:

To be pedantic, Montoya actually went straight. They found out a suspension piece broke under the car going into the corner...
And there are two tracks on the Sprint Cup circuit where they go right. Watkins Glen actually has more right turns than left ones.
