Buildism looks like it will be an awesome game. Can anyone tell me about the website? One thing I don't understand is the ranks. Do I stay "n00b" and go higher over time like a level up? Explain please.

No,the thing under your name.You can change it on the user CP,just like I got mine.You just change it.

Tyler is right. You can change it on the User CP by just clicking on it and type the name you want.
