Going back to the original topic, Ming-Yan was demoted for being immature and posting in rule-breaking threads without doing anything with them. There is a difference between not moderating because you don't read the bad threads/other mods get to them first and not moderating because you just don't want to do it.
This is going to make me sound like I have a huge ego, but I have 5 years of experience running communities, and this was a pretty obvious case of a staff member that shouldn't have been promoted. If it was a less straightforward situation, I would have talked to some of the other mods before doing anything.
Also, CoderRyne complained about Ming-Yan being a terrible moderator too, and he isn't a staff member so he didn't see any of our discussions about the demotion before it happened.
