The reputation was previously in because the community was nice. But, later on, many people got false and bad reputation. Reputation typically shows how a person is rated. If someone rates bad a lot of times, then complaints will happen and it's just not how we should look at people.

If mods were chosen by reputation, it would be highly inaccurate.
Likewise, it is very easy to put on a facade and act like you are nice until you have power.
