I go 2D old-school style most the time and stick with pixels: I'll zoom in all the way, dot one pixel at a time. I shade using pixel-by-pixel. It may look big often, but it's really small when you zoom out, so often times I have to redo it.

This is one of my things I did - Using ONLY paint ( NOT Paint.NET, the paint given to you when you get a computer) and I did this when I was bored. No sprites were used. Everything by me.
