The reason it fails is because:

1. It's SARAH PALIN'S JOKE
2. It doesn't make sense unless you know what a hockey mom is
3. Hockey mom is not a term used much [unlike soccer mom] I presume
4. It made her sound stupid
5. It's SARAH PALIN'S JOKE

Its society's stereotype. Deal with it.

Also, I didn't know what a hockey mom is until I googled it. so most of what ming-yan said was true.
