I clicked the build button, and the editor popped up and everything.
But whenever I decide to insert a square or circle, it like, pops up in front of my character, and if I move it, it disappears.

Use the square and circle buttons on the toolbar, not Insert Object.

Just click one of the buttons, then drag your mouse to draw stuff.
