Here's an incomplete list of the concepts you'll need to understand to make a copy of Buildism.

* Multithreading and synchronization
* InputStreams/OutputStreams
* Collections (ArrayList, HashMap)
* Inheritance, abstraction
* Trigonometry
* Frame rate management (this took me several tries to get right)
* Metatables
* Graphics2D Transformations/Paints, etc,
