And when I mean vertical, I mean straight up-and-down, same pixel line, for over a hundred units. Hopping repeatedly while running at it makes your character shoot up very quickly.
Is this intentional?

It wasn't intentional, but I decided not to fix it because it's not really harmful. Do you think I should make vertical terrain unclimbable?

It's not too much of a problem -- an invisible box on the edge or even just using a box instead of or alongside the vertical terrain can stop it from happening.

I think the terrain isn't very vertical, like a 85 degree line.

Like rock climbing?
Though I worry that some game might be exploited because of this.

Just pretend that the terrain is actually a rock climbing wall with invisible handholds and footholds.

And like I said, it's really easy to stop exploits -- just put a box in there somewhere.
