If we remove the limit, then nobody will ever delete their PMs and it will just keep taking up more and more disk space.
Hard disks aren't free.

If you click on Save a Copy, then you can uncheck it and it won't take as much space.

For regular users, 200; for mods, 250. At least it was last mine got full.
