0.999... does not equal 1, every number is different.
You wouldn't say 0.25 as 0.025??
0.9... is equal to 1.
Why? Because it's a number infinitely close to 1. Therefore it is 1. Another way to prove it: 1/9 = 0.1... 2/9 = 0.2... etc. 9/9 = 0.9... But 9/9 also equals 1, right?

It may be hard to understand, but anything that's infinitely close to something _is_ that thing. New topic: what does 1/0 equal?
Say x = 0.999...
Then 10x = 9.999... Take away x from each side (9.999... - 0.999... = 9) 9x = 9 x = 1 (05-09-2012, 08:56 PM)noob007 Wrote:(05-09-2012, 08:49 PM)Franco30557 Wrote:(05-09-2012, 08:45 PM)noob007 Wrote:(05-09-2012, 08:45 PM)Franco30557 Wrote:(05-09-2012, 08:42 PM)noob007 Wrote: 0.9... is equal to 1. @Paradox's Question
x = 0.33333333 x * 10 = 3.33333333333 x * 9 = 3 3 - 9 = 1 - 3 3 - 3 = 1 @Noob007 1/0 = i

How about this
0.333... = 1/3 right? And 1/3 * 3 = 1 right? Well 0.333... * 3 = 0.999... = 1 |
