How about a random math debate?

Topic: Does 0.999... = 1?
Go.

0.999... does not equal 1, every number is different.

You wouldn't say 0.25 as 0.025??

0.9... is equal to 1.

Why? Because it's a number infinitely close to 1. Therefore it is 1.
Another way to prove it:

1/9 = 0.1...
2/9 = 0.2...
etc.
9/9 = 0.9...

But 9/9 also equals 1, right?

"Because it's a number infinitely close to 1."

Yeah, but it isn't 1 is it?? Tongue

0.999 < 1
0.99999999999999 < 1
0.999... < 1

End...

0.999 < 1
0.99999999999999 < 1
0.999... < 1

End...

No, it is not the end. It may be hard to understand, but anything that's infinitely close to something _is_ that thing.

Say x = 0.999...

Then

10x = 9.999...

Take away x from each side (9.999... - 0.999... = 9)

9x = 9

x = 1

To me, anything/0 = i.

@Paradox's Question
x = 0.33333333
x * 10 = 3.33333333333
x * 9 = 3

How about this

0.333... = 1/3 right? And 1/3 * 3 = 1 right?

Well 0.333... * 3 = 0.999... = 1
