We had "easy" multiplayer for a while, one server.
It was buggy, laggy, and in the end completely crashed for 3 days and nobody noticed.
It was okay, but multiplayer in general needs work. As it is, you can try to deal with the complicated steps (Minecraft hosting is the same process!), find whatever bugs pop up, and tell Jacob to kill 'em.
Personally, I can't port forward for several reasons; but my laptop is junk.
