Exactly.
To be fair, though, that wreck started all the safety changes in NASCAR -- until Dale Sr. was killed, NASCAR was very backwards in car and track safety. Many didn't wear firesuits, the seat belts weren't that different from the ones in a typical SUV, and often they either didn't wear helmets or wore ones less protective than most motorcylcists'.
