Apparently this is a common problem with Macs, but nobody knows how to fix it: http://www.google.com/search?q=java+applet+flicker+mac

Apple really shouldn't have made their own version of Java instead of letting Sun do it... But Steve Jobs hates Java anyway so he probably doesn't care. I changed some suspicious code, but I don't think it will fix anything and I don't have a Mac to test it on.
