Milk in a bag? What's the point of that? It'll all spill.

This crash several weeks ago put me in a really rough mood for the next couple of days. There's still a fan hospitalized from the debris that went through the catch fence.

This started when there was contact between the two leading drivers coming to the checkered flag, last corner, last lap. Only Tony Stewart avoided the mayhem that followed -- every other car on the lead lap was either involved in the calamity that sent Kyle Larson's car into the catchfence, where the front end was sheared off by a closed access gate, and went flying into the seating area.

Almost twenty people were hospitalized, all of whom were fans in the grandstands. All but one have been released by now, and the one that hasn't has been stable and recovering since Day One.

People don't seem to realize how dangerous racing is.

This was only the third such incident I can recall happening in the past three decades. One was when Carl Edwards flipped into the fence in 2009 (a piece of debris went through and broke a fan's jaw) and the other was when Bobby Allison's motor literally 'blew up' in the late 80's.

As Tony Stewart said in the aftermath, all the drivers know it's a dangerous sport, and that's a risk they take when they climb into the cars. But it's a much more serious matter when that danger gets transferred to the fans in the stands. They didn't come to risk their life around forty metal boxes on wheels going 200 mph. They came to enjoy watching a day of racing up close instead of on their big-screen TV.

And when you do that to a car, you end up in court!
