I have never been a member of a forum where it is acceptable to pretend to be two or more different people. Although alternate accounts can have legitimate uses, like making sure people focus on your message and not the messenger, so far I haven't seen any of these on here.
The moderators can usually determine who created an alt account, and using one to break rules is bannable. However, recently I've noticed that some people are using sockpuppets to do things that would normally give them a bad reputation, but aren't against the rules.
So, now the owner of an alt account will be displayed whenever they make a post. No rules were changed; using multiple accounts is still allowed. This is just intended to discourage you from pretending to be more than one person.
