The NASCAR race is at Richmond this week, and it's the final race before the real championship -- the Chase -- starts. This year, in addition to the top 10 drivers in points, there are 2 "wild cards", which can be gotten by winning a race and being in the top 20 in points or by there being nobody else eligible for that and being in 11th or 12th in points.

That means that in addition to the 8 locked-in drivers, there are 14 drivers who can make it. That's huge. Before, the normal amount of drivers aiming for the chase were 1 or 2 who almost couldn't lose, and about 3 or 4 fighting for the last 1 or 2 spots.

And of course this is a short track so there's going to be a lot of banging and possibly some major wrecks.

The only thing that I'm not going to like about this is that it's the 10th anniversary weekend of 9/11 so they're likely to dwell on that a bit...
