I don't know anything about iPod development. I didn't even know it supported Java...

I think MC has a "portable" version, assumably for iPhone, so it might be possible.

It's for Xperia and they hired someone to rewrite it, I don't know if they had to rewrite for the droid version though

Just found this on Wikipedia:

On his twitter account Jens Bergensten noted that the Pocket Edition of Minecraft is written in C++ and not Java, due to iOS not being able to support Java.

So yes, Java is not supported on iPhones or iPad, so the game itself wouldn't be able to be made mobile, though the site should.
