Almost every base I've built on a hardcore server got raided at some point. Just make sure that anything you don't want to lose is in a hidden chest somewhere.

I'm putting up a cobblestone decoy house nearby. If someone comes they won't look too hard for the hidden base; they'll just raid the "house".
