And there are cheaper hard drives, too. I have about 70 GB in mine, which I don't know the exact price range for but you could probably get one for less than 25$.
I believe I've actually replaced those pieces multiple times on several desktops a few years back. If you do it right (a YouTube search ought to be able to show you how) it's not that difficult.
No use crying over spilled milk though. What's done is done. Hope you manage to get a working one soon.
