Easiest thing to do, counter them first.
When they give a response, use what they say against them. This will cause rage, giving you a legitimate reason to get them punished.

Bingo.
When I am dealing with trolls I just keep "poking them with a stick" get them mad enough to do something stupid and well the rules take care of the rest.

It's not bait, if they troll me I use logic to prove them incorrect.
They rage on their own accord.
