Anti Spam Measures - Jacob__mybb_import1 - 09-22-2011

I just deleted 30 spambot accounts that had advertising links in their sig... apparently they have been signing up all summer, and they just figured out how to post.

I also fixed the registration form so bots shouldn't be able to sign up at all anymore.

That was already there, but they were cracking it somehow. Now there is a hidden form field that is filled in by JavaScript, so you won't be able to use it without JavaScript (which usually only works in browsers, not spambot programs.)

*Starts programming one with JavaScript*
Wait...now people without JavaScript can't join?

I thought you wanted members!

(IE 1.0)
Also, people with spambots can register themselves - then use a spambot to post random messages.

If someone is actually using IE 1.0 they can't expect many websites to support their browser

RE: Anti Spam Measures - Qwertygiy - 09-22-2011

If someone is using IE 1.0, they're either in a third world country on a third rate computer or they're in a technology museum.

Or they have JavaScript disabled.

Yes they can.

My site, for example, just has jQuery installed, and I don't use it or JavaScript.

Also, parents might disable JavaScript, so there kids don't get pop-us and stuff.
