I just looked for that tutorial and it's gone... I think it was written by a certain member who had an emotional breakdown and deleted all of their posts.

Layers are pretty simple to use though - 0 (background) is behind the character, 1 is on the same level as the character, and 2 (foreground) is in front of the character. Parts will only collide with parts on their own layer.
