  You All Act Like Challenging Superiours is Wrong
Posted by: Ming-Yan - 08-10-2011, 05:18 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Challenging the higher up is how change is made. Tell me one forum where NO ONE had any criticism towards the creator or community assistants. Even something like a suggestion to add to the game is a form of criticism, indirectly directed towards the creator(s) or said game.

Even in a real life instance, people with more power are challenged, look at the government, look at capitalism and a work space in general.
I mean EVEN KIDS challenge their Parents to get more rights or challenge the school board for things.

Criticism isn't bad and shouldn't be locked, only flaming. Only a legitimate excessive amount of flame can be locked, because locking right when tension gets high just feeds the fire. I DID NOT say don't lock rule breaking things, I said don't lock something until there is a solid flame, I know you are trying to prevent stuff from happening but when you get involved via a lock, or a ban ,or a deletion, or warning, it makes it worse.
[/rant end]

TL;DR
Superiours are always challenged and criticized to make change, stopping it with fears of what will happen only makes it worse.

The limit is just pointless...

I suggest it be removed.

  coderyne had a chat with me.
Posted by: Fire - 08-10-2011, 04:37 PM - Forum: Moderator Discussion - Replies (8)

About what he thinks is happening to the community and how we should help change it for the better.
Its kind of long.. but i suggest reading it. He knows what he is talking about.

CoderRyne: Well...

CoderRyne: I have four major problems with the community right now. These problems must be fixed or more mods will leave, the community will get used to their unproper lifestyle, and the forums will stay unapealing to new members who like to forum.

CoderRyne: Let me first tell you this: I've owned, managed, and moderated so many communities that it isn't even funny. I know what I'm talking about, and my predictions for Buildism are already coming true. I'm a college student and I'm studying game development & programming. Part of my career will have a lot to do with management. Please understand that I'm not just some idiot trying to get his way.

CoderRyne: I'm here to help.

CoderRyne: Now...

CoderRyne: Let me tell you the same problems as I have told Ashely. I saw almost no improvements even after I spoke with Ashely.

CoderRyne: I'm going to ask you to please consider these issues and perhaps fix them before things get too out of hand. Here is my list:

CoderRyne: 1.) This "order and the house" crap needs to stop / end ASAP.

CoderRyne: It's starting a few flame wars, many personal attack threads and posts, and it's attacking staff like Ashely. I cannot believe that this has gotten this far with all the mods that you guys have.

CoderRyne: I'm not even foruming right now because of this stuff.

CoderRyne: Ashely is being flamed, trolled, harassed, hated on, etc.

CoderRyne: How can anyone allow a staff member to be treated this way?

CoderRyne: This is the COMMUNITY MANAGER.

CoderRyne: There is no sense in this.

CoderRyne: 3.) Apparently, the staff are not doing their jobs either. None of them, really. We need to get the staff acting on things again instead of simply discussing these problems in their little safe staff forum.

CoderRyne: For example...

CoderRyne: Look at a few of the threads by Paradox, et

CoderRyne: etc*

CoderRyne: Even staff posts...

CoderRyne: They are responding to all this junk... yet, they are not cleaning it up.

CoderRyne: That leads me to my fourth point.

CoderRyne: The forums are a complete, utter mess with crap about Ming-Yan's demotion (which all comes back to the house crap which I discussed first because they started this...), and now that Ming-Yan is gone, everyone is hating on Ashely...

CoderRyne: To continue that point further, people are now asking on the public forums if they deserve a promotion, or whatnot.

CoderRyne: And to continue the point even further, a lot of the newest threads are against ashely or about ashely. I can almost promise to you that if you read all of them closely, you would find a lot of posts in them that are negative.

CoderRyne: How can a large staff team like this let all of this go?

CoderRyne: :/

Smile Push People Off a Cliff - Update Log
Posted by: Brassrhino - 08-10-2011, 03:52 PM - Forum: Future Games - Replies (5)

8/31/11 - Added alot of People, as I'm quitting Buildism soon. They're not Push-able yet, but they will be quite soon.; Also, to people who wanted an In-depth list of who's being added, there's ilegit, Rare, Sazaho, Aaron, Who, Land, Fire, Ice, noob007, Login, Scripter, and CoderRyne.

9/2/11 - Although it's not noticeable, made a bit of progress in the morning, and some Non-Game progress in the afternoon.

  I was working on this FOREVER...
Posted by: Chaos - 08-10-2011, 03:02 PM - Forum: Programming - No Replies

And I get this error:

NOTE: I forgot if I had to use dots or commas, so this is what I got.

[lua]
function get_posts(){
$sql = "SELECT
`posts`.`post_id` AS `id`
`posts`.`post_title` AS `title`.
LEFT(`posts`.`post_body`. 512) AS `preview`.
`posts`.`post_user` AS `user`.
DATE_FORMAT(`posts`.`post_date`. '%d/%m/%y') AS `date`.
`comments``total_comments`.
DATE_FORMAT(`comments`.`last_comment`. '%d/%m/%y') AS `last_comment`
FROM `posts`
LEFT JOIN (
SELECT
`post_id`
COUNT(`comment_id`) AS `total_comments`.
MAX(`comment_dat`) AS `last_comment`
FROM `comments`
GROUP BY `post_id'
) AS `comments`
ON `posts`.`post_id` = `comments`, `post_id`
ORDER BY `posts`.`post_date` DESC";

$posts = mysql_query($sql);

$rows = array();

}
[/lua]

Now, that's the code. But if I put the main part (where I assign aliases) it gives me this error when I check it for errors:

{"success":false,"error":"
#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '`posts`.`post_title` AS `title`.\n LEFT(`posts`.`post_body`. 512) AS ' at line 3<\/div>"}

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm pretty new to sql so I was using that part as a tutorial and it took forever. Help anyone?

Well, I won't tell my country. I don't like stalkers, but I stalk ppl.
I am a NORMAL stalker, I don't fanattack. My name came from a boredom, it haves first letters of my name (no, I won't tell you my real name)

Okay, maybe it's the end of this post, but if you wanna talk, my ICQ is 621054358. Real hardness. I just made ICQ. So, bye! Asta la visita! (or whatever is it being said) obai!

  Two mods are gone - I don't believe we need moderators.
Posted by: Login - 08-10-2011, 04:38 AM - Forum: Moderator Discussion - Replies (2)

I think those two mods didn't do anything - it's as if nothing changed moderation-wise, so I believe Jacob_ shouldn't hire 2 more mods to replace them, but rather keep this team as is.
